Man arrested in deadly Valley stabbing

A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a 35-year-old woman, police said.

The stabbing occurred about 7:30 p.m. May 24 in the 2400 block of South Central Avenue. When police arrived, they found Stephanie Barr with a stab wound. She was taken to a hospital but did not survive, according to Phoenix police.

A search led police to William Washington who was taken into custody without incident.

Homicide detectives learned Washington was in an argument with another man when he pulled out a knife. Barr attempted to separate the two and was stabbed by Washington during the altercation, police said.
