Man arrested after collision that killed bike rider in Phoenix

A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a collision with a bike Monday in south Phoenix that left the rider dead, the Phoenix Police Department said Thursday in a news release.

According to the release, at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 14, Phoenix Police and Phoenix Fire personnel responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist in the area of 3400 S. 16th St.

When officers arrived, they learned that a bicyclist, later identified as 66-year-old Amado Rodriguez Jr., had been struck by a white GMC pickup truck. The truck was traveling southbound on 16th Street when the bicyclist crossed mid-block and was hit. The impact ejected Rodriguez from the bicycle, and the bicycle was dragged several feet before becoming dislodged.
