A 17-year-old girl was found dead Monday morning inside a vehicle at a Phoenix gas station, and a suspect has been arrested on manslaughter, child abuse and drug charges, police said.

Morning Gorman, 17, died at a hospital after being found unresponsive about 3:15 a.m. Feb. 5 in the 8000 block of North 27th Avenue, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

Officers were called to the gas station near 27th and Northern avenues on a welfare check and found Gorman in the vehicle. Two other girls were at the scene along with Richmond Sam, 48, police said.

During an initial investigation, detectives said they learned Sam picked up the teens at a nearby park the day before and gave them drugs to use throughout the evening.

“The females later noticed Gorman became unresponsive while they were at a gas station, and they called out for help,” police said in the release.

In addition to the manslaughter and child abuse charges, Sam also faces charges of providing drugs to a minor.
