Malone: Scottsdale visit renewed hope for country

Posted

After spending a recent weekend touring the beautiful city of Scottsdale (the pictures in the ladies restroom at Schmooze alone are worth going there for brunch), visiting family and talking with voters, I have a renewed hope for our country.

Some Republicans wanted me to know they were supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Why? The answer that sticks in my mind — because of Jan. 6, because of the attack on police officers, because of former President Trump’s attempt to overturn the election.

Arizona, particularly, was targeted in Trump’s attempt to overturn the will of the people, take away your votes, and install “fake electors” to support him.  When that didn’t work, he inspired an angry mob to attack our country’s Capitol, threatening the lives of police officers, our federal representatives, and Vice President Pence.

I have tremendous respect for Republicans like Dick Cheney, Mayor John Giles, John Mitnick (Trump’s former general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security) and many voters in Arizona who are true patriots putting country over party, protecting the Constitution and supporting Harris.

If you are undecided, please consider joining them. Your votes could save our country and ensure democracy continues.

Reader reactions, pro or con, are welcomed at AzOpinions@iniusa.org.
