Rosie's House has teamed up with Valley organizations on a Phoenix event for Make Music Day, the worldwide festival of making music that takes place annually on the summer solstice.

Cities around the U.S. are joining together to present more than 5,000 live, free music-making events on Friday, June 21.

Rosie's House, a local education nonprofit, is sponsoring Phoenix's events and is organizing the Valley-wide music celebration. One of the largest 100% free after-school music programs in the country, Rosie’s House annually serves over 600 students from PreK to 18 years of age.

Each year, Rosie's House provides more than 25,000 free music lessons in a variety of disciplines including strings, winds, mariachi, choir, digital music, piano, guitar and percussion. The academy is located at 919 E. Jefferson St., in Phoenix.

Make Music Day events at Rosie's House campus will feature local bands and musicians including The Nash's Jazz DivAZ, Rosie's House faculty and students, and more. Kids and families can visit the instrument petting zoo to discover new instruments, create their own noise maker, and enter to win prizes in a raffle.

Other Make Music Day participants around Phoenix include live musical performances at Xico Inc. on Roosevelt Row, Arizona Opera, Burton Barr Library, The Heard Museum, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, The Phoenix Art Museum, plus an open rehearsal at the Fushiko Daiko Taiko Drumming.

"Music is so important to creating community and Phoenix has such a vibrant music scene where you can discover musicians performing in all sorts of spaces, from small coffee houses to our big arenas,” Rosie's House CEO Becky Bell Ballard shared in a press release. "Music unites, uplifts and brings such joy to all."

Launched in 1982 in France, Make Music is celebrated on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in dozens of countries around the world.
