Major sponsors join Connect fundraiser

Northwest Valley Connect officials gained four major sponsors for the agency’s first public fundraiser.
The event is scheduled 1-6 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 N R H Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.
Seniors gather to play games as part of one of several Benevilla programs. Northwest Valley Connect, a transportation resource call center, was started as a joint effort between Benevilla and Sun Health.
The four sponsors are Sun Health, Independent Newsmedia, Benevilla and Birt and Louisa Kellam.
“The financial support from these sponsors will provide us with the resources needed to plan and execute Motors and Meals. We truly believe this event will not only be successful in raising awareness and funding for Northwest Valley Connect, but will become a signature annual event for the entire community we serve,” said Bonnie Boyce-Wilson, NVC board chairwoman.
Motors and Meals will feature a car show, food trucks, wine and beer, silent auction, raffle, live music and various children’s activities. The event is free to all. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Northwest Valley Connect continue its mission of providing improved transportation options to homebound adults and those with mobility disabilities.
In addition to the sponsors, ten additional underwriters are adding their support to ensure the success of Motors and Meals. They are EPCOR, APS, Total Transit, DMB/Marley Park, AMTrust Bank, Champs Family Automotive, FirstLight Home Care, SunWest Federal Credit Union and in-kind support from both the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, Sun City West Automotive Restoration Club and Parks and Sons of Sun City.
Northwest Valley Connect marked its second full year of operation, responding to more than 3,500 calls to its call center where trained volunteers “connect” its clients to an appropriate transportation provider. In some cases, the agency uses its own volunteer drivers to make the trips.
“The growth in calls has been explosive,” said Kathy Chandler, NVC executive director and mobility manager. “Transportation remains the number one challenge for those well enough to live at home but who no longer can drive. These folks need transportation not only to doctors’ appointments but also to shopping and all-important social activities.”
