Luke Air Force Base kids delight in Glendale Christmas shopping spree

‘Operation Santa’ lifts spirits of kids who have a parent deployed over the holiday

Deployments are never easy for military families.

This year’s over Christmas hits even deeper for the Otta family. When Sgt. Charles Otta, who serves at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, went on deployment, his new son was just one month old. Sgt. Otta has been out for five months in the time since.

“It’s been rough. This deployment has been the roughest one we’ve had,” his wife, Emily, says. “We’re adjusting to a new baby, and (their two other kids are) old enough that now they’ve started knowing that their dad is gone, and they start missing him more.”
