Lucille Adelle Clarke, 100Lucille Adelle Clarke, mother of former Paradise Valley Mayor Ron Clarke, passed away May 26 in North Scottsdale. She was 100.Ms. Clarke was born in Amboy, Ill., and was the daughter of Tope Barlow, an engineer on the Illinois Central who owned the only general store in town. Her mother, Mimi, raised her and three other sisters, Leila, Olive and Marie. She married Stanley, a sales executive with Illinois Bell in 1932. The couple was married for 42 years before his death. She moved to Scottsdale in 1977 to be closer to her son.Her life was dedicated to helping others. She was given the nickname "Energizer Bunny" because of her boundless positive energy and willingness to go the extra mile to help others.After being in Scottsdale two weeks, she began volunteering at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital. She served a total of 17,000 hours at the front desk, wheeling patients, working with the Teen Auxiliary and training new volunteers. She was lead volunteer at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital, 10450 N. 92nd St.She received numerous rewards and recognition for services, including the Frances Young Community award, the Twelve Who Care Hon Kachina award.Ms. Clarke was the first resident of The Manors of Scottsdale and focused positive energy in greeting every new resident and making them feel at home. She is survived by her son, Ron (Sheryl) Clarke; two grandsons; Kevin (Ellen) and Jeff (Kathy); and four great-grandchildren, Molly, Kelli, Austin and Dillon. Family and friends celebrated her life at The Manors June 6. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
