Looking to a ‘normal’ return to Cactus League baseball

Last 3 years marred by pandemic, lockout

Spring training has had a rough go at it the last few years.

The disruptions have been consistent and derailing, with three big ones, to be specific — the first two by COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021 and the last one by the Major League Baseball lockout in 2022.

The lockout shortened a season and the pandemic restricted capacity as well as cut a season short, leaving a drop-off in attendance as low as about 447,000 in 2021, compared to pre-2020 numbers when Cactus League attendance was in the 1.7 million range.
