EDUCATION

Longtime Glendale principal approaching last day before retirement

A health scare may have gotten Mark Anderson to change up his career, but he won’t be done teaching students

Mark Anderson has been around schools, students, classrooms, and education for so long even he can’t quite remember exactly when it all started.

Was it when he started running a summer program for the city of Scottsdale when he was only 16? Within a year there were hundreds of kids in the program that blossomed into an after-school responsibility during the school year. Or was it at a young age when he helped his mom, who for 32 years was a special ed teacher herself?

What is clear is the moment he knew he wanted to be a principal.
