I read with interest your front page article on (“The Play’s the Thing — Again,” Sun City West Independent, July 5, 2023).
It was well done, very topical and relevant to those of us in the theater world in this area. As with many of the fine arts, the COVID and post-COVID times have been difficult for these historically struggling endeavors. Thankfully, that trend is turning around (albeit slowly) for those of us in the arts. It was encouraging to see your publication giving recognition of that challenge.
However, the theaters you mentioned did not include one of the area’s most successful theater — Stardust Theatre in Sun City West. It appears they were not contacted for input, which is very perplexing. This theater is the performing venue for four different organizations — Theatre West, Westernaires, Dancesensations and the Music Club. Stardust Theatre was founded in 1989 and has been consistently successful in its seasons (October-April) at nearly 50 performances per season. It has had nearly sell-out audiences for the two seasons since COVID, which says volumes about its following, audience-wise.
Just wanted to bring this oversight to your attention and hope you will look into the upcoming season of Stardust Theatre and give the shows the attention they deserve.
