Lockdown prompts Gilbert schools to rethink communication, protocols

Gilbert Public Schools Superintendent Shane McCord said  the experience of Highand Park Elementary's lockdown last week revealed hard lessons about communication, transparency and the emotional impact emergencies have on students, staff and families.

Addressing the school’s community at the governing board meeting Tuesday, McCord issued an apology to the Highland Park community, taking responsibility for the distress caused and committing to improvements.

“As superintendent, I am ultimately responsible,” he said. “I’m committed to learning from this experience and making meaningful improvements as we move forward.”
