United States Marine Corps veteran John Wintersteen, 78, has lived his life serving people in various capacities, not only in the military but in his local community of Paradise Valley as well.
Wintersteen spent 30 years in the Marines, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in November 1995. His last duty assignment was as head of security for law enforcement and anti-terrorism at the Marine Corps headquarters in Arlington, Va.
“I just had amazing opportunities as a Marine — the camaraderie, the sense of brotherhood,” Wintersteen reflected. “The old saying ‘Once a Marine, always a Marine,’ is so true.”
