On the eve of its 40th anniversary, the Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce will now be known as the Greater Phoenix Equality Chamber of Commerce.
As one of the largest and most respected business groups in the Valley, the name change was done to signify a commitment to diversity and equality, and to better serve the business community of Phoenix and surrounding cities for the future, according to a press release.
“It is a sign of how our organization has grown,” said Chamber President Michael Marcinko in a prepared statement. “Though we began as an organization to only serve the LGBTQ+ community, fully half our membership is comprised of allies to the community. We believe strength lies in diversity. Equality is our mission, both in business and in life.”
