Living to be 100-years-old: Can Scottsdale increase community longevity?

Less than 3% of Scottsdale’s 241,361 residents are over the age of 85 — a total of about 7,000 people. It’s a figure Scottsdale health care and community officials are looking to grow.

While it may seem an unlikely feat for most Americans of living to be 100 years old, HonorHealth has started a collective effort to help Scottsdale age together as a community.

Research shows there are a select few communities around the world where a greater amount of people thrive into their 100s. By studying what commonalities these various areas have, some are now looking to grow Americans’ lives. Aspects like close friends and family, a purpose, natural movement in your life and a healthy diet do make a difference, blue zones officials say.
