Litchfield Elementary district to continue mask policy after judge rejects Ducey ban

Board members attribute policy to significant reduction in COVID-19 cases

Litchfield Elementary School District will continue mandating masks on campus with a parent opt-out option for the remainder of the semester, the district governing board voted unanimously on Tuesday. 

When the board first approved a mask mandate Aug. 17, it was scheduled to expire by the end of September, when Gov. Doug Ducey’s ban on mask mandates in Arizona public and charter schools was scheduled to take effect. 

But on Monday, a judge ruled Ducey’s ban on mask mandates, along with a variety of other laws set to go into effect, were unconstitutional.
