Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice,” which delves into themes of mercy, justice and self-discovery, will arrive in Scottsdale in a limited four-show engagement.
Witness the complex interplay between Shylock, Antonio, and Portia as they navigate a world of contractual obligations and moral dilemmas. Directed by Beau Heckman, the Southwest Shakespeare Company production includes performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8; two shows (2 & 7:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Aug. 9; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at Theatre Artists Studio.
“The lines between justice and revenge blur as this production challenges audiences to reflect on their own beliefs and the lengths they would go to defend them,” a theater press release states.

The two matinee shows – on Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10 – are both special stop-action performances led by Artistic Director Keath Hall. The cast will stop and discuss pivotal moments in the show as the performance is actively going on.
