Wholesaler Baker & Taylor has been supplying U.S. libraries with books since 1828, but that is about to change.
The company announced it will close, stopping operations by January. That leaves many libraries across the country in uncharted waters when it comes to putting new books on the shelves.
Lee Franklin, a spokesperson for the Phoenix Public Library, said she can safely estimate that in recent years the Phoenix system has purchased about 80% of its physical books from Baker & Taylor. Phoenix has more than 1 million physical books throughout the system.
