Liberty survives Sunrise Mountain in triple OT thrill ride

Lions win 41-38, in game that was 14-13 late in fourth quarter

Once Liberty football got to overtime at rival Sunrise Mountain Sept. 17, the Lions had confidence they would find a way to win the North Peoria rivalry.

Of course, to even get to overtime the visitors had to survive a near-perfect first half by the Mustangs, a 70-yard fumble recovery touchdown in the final four minutes and a walk-off field goal attempt from one of the state's best kickers.

As improbable as it seemed at times, Liberty (3-0) weathered these storms and won in overtime - well, triple overtime. Junior running back Zach Wallace scored all three overtime touchdowns and the Lions forced a field goal in the third frame to win 41-38.
