It may be hard to fathom from the final score, but Liberty had a bit of a gut check moment in its 2021 opening win Sept. 3.
After the Lions grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first six minutes at home, Mountain Ridge found its footing. A pair of pinpoint touchdown passes by junior quarterback Brendan Anderson drew the visitors within a point at 14-13.
From there, the Lions bewildered the Mountain Lions secondary, breaking free for a series of long touchdown passes. Before Mountain Ridge scored again, Lions junior Dominic Ochoa tossed scores of 25, 29, 48 and 58 yards.
