Newspapers and web sites have tried to come up with definitive national high school poll for football longer than any other sport. Conversely, girls wrestling is the newest sport with a U.S. ranking, debuting at season’s end last March.
This year Liberty has been ranked in the top 20 of both national polls for the first time. And the girls wrestlers continue to shoot up the charts.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame, USA Wrestling and FloWrestling collaborate on the national rankings. Their first in season poll on Dec. 20 placed Liberty at No. 9, right after the Lions placed second to No. 2 Toppenish (Wash.) at the FIGHT Tournament in Findlay, Ohio.
