TEMPE - The 2021 state 6A baseball champion Liberty Lions beat down the sport's cliches like they hit the best teams Arizona - steadily knocking over whatever stood in their way.
"Baseball is a game of failure." The Lions batted an eye-popping .414 with 278 base hits. "On any given day, any team can beat another." #2 seed Liberty (21-3) finished the season with a 19-game winning streak, with 16 of those wins by six runs or more.
Liberty piled up 14 hits in a 10-0 five-inning 6A final win over #4 Alhambra (23-2) May 18 at Tempe Diablo Stadium. And all 14 were singles - with 13 coming in the last three innings as on of Arizona's all time lineups settled in.
