LGES: Part of Queen Creek EV battery complex 'on hold'

South Korean electric battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution has confirmed that it is temporarily putting "on hold" one of two facilities it plans to build on 650 acres at Ironwood and Pecos roads in Queen Creek as part of a $5.5 billion investment in the town.

"LG Energy Solution is adjusting the pace of planned investment execution efficiently and flexibly according to market conditions, and focusing on optimizing our operations. As part of such efforts, we are temporarily putting the construction of Arizona ESS battery facility on hold," according to a statement from LGES sent to the Queen Creek Independent on Monday. "We still believe the facility will play an important role in our North America operations as we expect continued growth in the U.S. ESS market. Meanwhile, the construction of cylindrical EV battery facility is ongoing as planned."

In 2023, LGES announced that it was investing $5.5 billion to build a two-facility manufacturing complex in Queen Creek that would be the company’s first stand-alone cylindrical and ESS battery plants in North America.
