Lewis: Scottsdale Schools get it right

Posted

Having lived in Scottsdale for the last 20 years (both in the Cave Creek area, and in the Scottsdale Unified School District) I was so proud of our school district’s successful passage of the override. Our voters protected the ongoing foundational needs for our students, teachers and community. Our schools will have the basic resources needed to ensure world-class, future-focused learning, where our students think critically and act collaboratively.

The intellectual exploration promoted through community engagement during this opportunity to exercise your voice was beautifully modeled in the results of this winning campaign. Because of your vote, the teachers will stay due to competitive salaries that can now be maintained. Teachers will further develop and invest in our 22,000 kids. Yep, our future!

Thank you for sending the message that you believe in and see the benefits of investing this way in our community’s public schools. I feel a personal warmth and reassurance in who Scottsdale is in protecting the advanced placement, Career and Technical Education programs, gifted and honors classes, International Baccalaureate, Math and Science Academy, world languages, strong athletics, music and arts services. These research-based programs provide an educated citizenry and yield our students with scholarships, as well as five of the schools being A+. All this without an increase to our taxes. Well done.
