Why are taxpayers funding ICE center we don’t want?
OPINION — I’m a 73-year-old resident of Surprise. I attended the city council meeting on Feb. 3.
I showed up in opposition to locating a detention center here. American people were told that ICE was going to round up all the hardened criminal illegal aliens. This has not proven to be the case.
We see news stories every day where American citizens, immigrants going through the process to become citizens, immigrants with work permits and green cards and many other innocents being dragged from their cars, shot at, taken from their parents, etc.

So, despite calls from the public and politicians to stop this, it continues, and now ICE wants to hold these people in facilities.
For how long? We as taxpayers have to pay for all this — and for what? No benefit that I can see.
If you want to deport criminals, first determine who they are, legally go after them and then deport them. Let law abiding citizens stay and get on with their lives and not be a tax burden to usby holding them in detention centers.
I find it hard to fathom how people can ignore what is ICE is doing.
