The fourth time may be the charm for legislation to get water to the parched Rio Verde Foothills community northeast of Scottsdale.
A bill to get water flowing again to the community was passed by the Arizona House of Representatives June 12 and the Senate June 13. It now goes to Gov. Katie Hobbs desk for her signature. She is expected to sign it.
The bill, authored by Rep. Alexander Kolodin, R-Scottsdale, creates a “stand pipe district” operated by appointees from different governmental agencies such as the Arizona Division of Water Resources, which would sunset in 2026. It also requires the city of Scottsdale to sell water to the new district.
