Leaving the classroom: 30% of Scottsdale Unified teachers resign, retire

Since January 2021, about 30% of Scottsdale Unified School District’s teaching staff has packed up their classrooms and supplies and left for good, according to data compiled by the district.

These employees have mostly resigned, some have retired and a few terminated their contracts, according to personnel documents included in district meeting agendas.

Between January 2021 and May 2022, 449 certified employees — the district’s classification for teachers and other instructional staff — have been recorded as exiting the local district. Data comes from the district governing board agendas, which each month include personnel changes.
