The Salt River Horses are protected from removal (unless for humane reasons) in the Salt River Wild Horse Act signed in 2016. Why isn't this law being enforced?
In regard to Scottsdale Mayor Barowsky's proposal to save some of the Salt River wild horses by moving them to Scottsdale, I applaud her for recognizing the historic value of these majestic horses. The Wild Horse Transition Team who is bidding on the management contract is led by a federal roundup contractor who removed the Alpine Horses, many of whom were sent to an auction house in Texas. This is not what the public fought against in 2015, and it is not what we want today.
The Salt River Wild Horse Management Group stepped up in 2015 and saved these horses from annihilation. They still manage the group today and are opposed to any removals. Uphold ARS3-1491 and let the SRWHMG continue their humane management of these beautiful, historic horses.
