The accusations levied against me (in the recall effort) indicate that the accusers do not understand Sun City West’s Chartered Clubs system. The governing board has assigned responsibility for reviewing and revising the RR&Ps to the Chartered Clubs Committee. Chartered Clubs Committee members revised the RR&Ps based on the findings of the ClubTrack Reporting and Tournament, Leagues, and Special Events working groups final reports from late 2022 and early 2023, respectively. Chartered Clubs were invited to participate with those working groups, although not all did. The governing board approved those final reports.
Chartered Clubs are a valuable part of life in Sun City West. There are no efforts to “kill” clubs, nor is anyone “anti-club.” Those who have initiated the recall seek to open our facilities to the public as they have seemed to have forgotten the 2011 governing board declaration, “The Recreation Centers’ facilities have been paid for jointly by all the members of the association, correspondingly, the use of these facilities is limited to its dues paying members and their occasionally invited guests.” The recall leaders object to this principle as their years of noncompliance are finally being brought to light.
As a governing board director and Chartered Clubs Committee chairperson, I am focused on ensuring that Chartered Clubs are welcoming, open, and fun. The Chartered Clubs system has historically faced inequity between clubs, perceived favoritism, lax or no rules enforcement, and other harmful issues. This is what the recall leaders call “saving our clubs.” Let’s make our Chartered Clubs the wholesome and enjoyable recreational activities they’re meant to be. This is my pledge.
