Learning for seniors: Research participants helping in cognitive disease diagnosis

Jerry Theis is helping researchers learn how people can live a long life.

Theis and others like him are volunteers with the Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City, taking part in clinical trials to help combat debilitating age-related diseases. This institute specializes in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and Tourette’s syndromes, plus the Brain and Body Donation Program, Center for Healthy Aging Program and family and community services.

Theis, a nine-year volunteer at the institute, has been committed to senior health for more than 40 years and has donated hundreds of hours to this cause. Theis was a participant in the Longevity study: Learning from our Elders, and now interviews program participants to gather information from seniors as each grows older.
