Lawsuit to block Scottsdale parks funding ballot measure to be decided by July 19

The attempt to remove the proposed Protect and Preserve sales tax from the Nov. 5 ballot had its day in court July 18 and an answer as to whether it can stay should be clear shortly.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Michael D. Gordon has committed to have his ruling on the issue by 3 p.m., July 19, though there could still be the appeals process after that.

Protect and Preserve is a 0.15% sales tax the Scottsdale City Council put on the ballot to pay for upkeep, services and capital improvement projects at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the city’s 44 parks and WestWorld.
