Lawsuit could help push Surprise ICE facility to midterms

Judd hopes multiple delays could let voters have a say

The lawsuit that Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes filed against the Department of Homeland Security late last week could at least delay the opening of an ICE detention center in Surprise until after the November general election.

At least that is what one Surprise council member is hoping.

“The longer it takes for this to come in — if her action delays it a little bit — it gives more time for voters to speak up in the midterm elections to say whether they’re OK with this path or not OK with this path,” Chris Judd said.
