Lawn bowling turf challenges

Solutions being tested

For Bermuda grass, shade and compaction are two factors that work against successful growth of the turf.

Recreation Centers of Sun City West association officials are aware of the barren areas on the lawn bowling courts at R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd. General Manager Bill Schwind said the courts are now 42 years old, have never been redone and are starting to show wear and tear.

“The edges of the courses are getting to a point of getting complaints, and we are looking for a financially sound fix,” he said.
