The Amadio Ranch and Farm stepped up to serve the Laveen community when the pandemic struck. When the ranch’s farmers market and community events were up for an extension, the community returned the favor.
When a 10-year extension for the small ranch’s farmers market, 4701 W. Dobbins Road, came before the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors last month, 382 people signed their name in support of the extension and just one person wrote in opposition. The board listened to the support and passed the extension unanimously.
Laveen resident Fern Ward called into the Wednesday, March 10 board meeting to support the ranch. She said before the coronavirus pandemic hit, the farmers market was a source of fresh fruit and vegetables and frozen home-cooked meals. After pandemic lockdowns that caused many Arizonans to lose income, she said the ranch had an even greater community impact.
