Laveen committee approves higher density for planned multifamily development

A 110-unit multifamily development in southwest Phoenix was approved for a rezone Monday by the Laveen Village Planning Committee after agreeing to additional stipulations for items committee members wanted incorporated into the project.

The committee’s recommendation is forwarded to the planning commission, which will vote Thursday, Aug. 4, and then to city council for final approval on the rezone.

The 11.1-acre property, at the northeast corner of 39th Avenue and Vineyard Road, had been zoned under the R1-8 single-family residential designation, allowing for up to 5.4 units per acre, to a R-2 multifamily residential designation, allowing for up to 10.5 units per acre.
