Laveen asks developer for more commercial in mixed-use project

Vote postponed to Aug. 8

A Laveen committee last week told developers to add more commercial to their plans for a mixed-use project on the property once slated to become the Laveen Town Center.

The Laveen Village Planning Committee postponed a vote on a requested property rezoning until its next meeting on Monday, Aug. 8, signaling to developers the request would be rejected unless more commercial space was added.

A few members directly said the project would not get their vote as is. One member also hoped for more open space, but the main goal was to add more commercial as the property was once designed to have. “We need more commercial in Laveen,” said Committee Member Jennifer Rouse. “Having known some of the history behind this project and what people want over there, I’m disappointed with what’s being presented.”
