Lattie Coor, the one-time president of Arizona State University who oversaw multiple milestones in the Tempe school’s growth, died Thursday. He was 89.
Coor served as ASU president from 1990 to 2002 following a similar 14-year tenure as president at the University of Vermont. He brought with him a drive to transform ASU into a major powerhouse.
“Lattie’s leadership of ASU between 1990 and 2002 was pivotal to the ASU we are today. He built a university faculty of stature, and he laid the track for ASU to emerge as a unique institution of higher learning,” ASU President Michael M. Crow said in a statement.
