Last day to mail in Deer Valley Unified override ballots approaching

District hoping to reverse trend last 2 years, maintain original funding

The last day voters can return their mail-in ballots, which include a measure to continue the override funding for Deer Valley Unified School District, is approaching.

The existing 15% maintenance and operations override was first approved by voters in 1991 and provides for the district’s operating resources, including staff salaries and student extracurricular activities.

Voters the past two years voted against continuing the override. As a result, the district cut $11 million from this year’s budget, which amounted to cutting almost 50 staff positions, and also raised fees for extracurricular activities.
