Ladera: Mask wearing just one more sensible choice

Posted

Regarding Cindy Brown’s recent letter, (“Time to wake from slumber,” Sun City Independent, Aug. 17, 2022)... I don’t feel disrespected by people who don’t wear a mask. I couldn’t care less if they chose not to.

Based on mine and my family’s lack of communicable illnesses for the last several years, I think wearing a mask is probably the cheapest and easiest means of staying healthy. We haven’t had COVID, the flu, or a cold since we all started wearing one in public.

Additionally, not communicable, but the yearly sinus infection and on-going allergies have not occurred to anyone in my family.

So, I ask: Why does wearing a mask to avoid getting sick make a person a coward and a sheep?

There are so many things we do to stay safe, healthy, and to reduce risk of negative impacts to our lives or the lives of others around us.

Let’s review just a few:

  • Seatbelts: Are you a coward and a sheep for wearing one or noble when you fly through the windshield?
  • Washing your hands after using the restroom: Are you a coward and a sheep for doing so or noble when your germ-infested hands touch the surface’s others will touch or eating those French-fries you just ordered? Yummy!
  • Using a crosswalk to cross the street: Are you a coward and a sheep for doing so or noble when a car runs you over and thus negatively impacting the driver for the rest of their lives not to mention your noble death?
  • Wearing a helmet on a bike: Are you a coward and a sheep for doing so or noble when you fall and become a mental vegetable the rest of your life? I guess you could say noble if you have donated your organs to those less noble than you.
  • Getting a vaccine shot: Are you a coward and a sheep for getting one or is it noble to get polio (lots of noble people are getting polio now)?
  • Don’t run with scissors: Are you a coward and a sheep for not running with scissors or noble for doing a 110-meter hurdles with a couple of pairs?
  • Wearing sunscreen: Are you a coward and a sheep for wearing sunscreen to avoid skin cancer or are you noble for throwing caution to the wind and burn baby burn?
  • The point is that it’s your opinion that anyone that complies with laws or uses common sense is a sheep and a coward.
  • My final question regarding cowardly sheep: If wearing a mask over the orifices on your face makes you a sheep and a coward, does the same thing apply to those ... using underwear?

Things that make you say “Baaaaaaa!”
