La Niña predicted to keep Arizona dry, warm this winter

Valley residents shouldn’t expect a bounty of rain this winter.

Dry weather with less rain is in the forecast this winter as La Niña and its below-normal precipitation are the likely conditions between December through February, according to Alex Young, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

By definition, La Niña is “a cooling of the water in the equatorial Pacific, which occurs at irregular intervals, and is associated with widespread changes in weather” patterns.
