L.A. man sentenced in murder-for-hire scheme in Scottsdale

Robert Celifie, 45, of Los Angeles, was recently sentenced to natural life in prison for the murder of Ilya “Mike the Barber” Shimonov in a murder-for-hire scheme.

Shimonov operated a mobile barber shop from a converted school bus and had just completed a haircut appointment in the parking lot of a Scottsdale hotel when he was shot multiple times on the evening of Jan. 3, 2022, according to a press release from Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell’s office.

He died from those injuries, but investigators quickly realized that Shimonov’s phone had been stolen.
