Following the unanimous decision of the Kyrene Elementary School District Board to close six schools in the district, staff have conflicting narratives about the future of their jobs and the inevitable changes of the closures.
The elementary schools Colina, Estrella and Manitas will close in the 2026-27 school year with the kindergarten through eighth-grade school Kyrene Traditional Academy, Akimel A-al Middle School and Pueblo Middle School will all close in the 2027-28 school year leaving only four remaining middle schools in the district.
Michael Lamp, principal of Milenio Elementary School, spoke to the board and held a neutral tone.
