Coming up on the last month of the 2022-23 school year, Kyrene School District’s governing board recently discussed its latest bi-annual demographic and enrollment study, looking into the different factors that contribute to students coming to the district.
At large, Kyrene has roughly 160,000 residents in the district, but despite those numbers, the K-8 population has been shrinking dramatically based on data from before the Great Recession.
Enrollment across grade cohorts (K-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th) has also seen a gradual decline, with K-2nd having a slight rise prior to COVID-19 and upper grades generally following the same trends.
