Kyrene earns excellence in financial reporting award

Kyrene Elementary School District has once more been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.

According to a press release, the COE program honors school districts for high-quality Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports. Kyrene has participated in the COE program for 29 years.

“This award and Kyrene’s track record of earning it year after year for the past three decades is a testament to our commitment to transparency,” said Kyrene Chief Financial Officer Chris Herrmann in the release.

“Our goal is to build trust and community engagement through clear financial reporting,” Herrmann added.

Kyrene received the ASBO Certificate of Excellence in recognition of its ACFR for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022. Applicants submit their ACFR for review by a team of financial professionals who provide feedback to improve future documents.

“Once again, Kyrene Business Services personnel have been honored with a prestigious award in recognition of their attention to detail and exemplary practices,” said Kyrene Superintendent Laura Toenjes in the release. “I am grateful to the team for their continued sound financial management, which remains a point of pride in Kyrene School District.”

The Kyrene Business Services team is led by Herrmann and Business Services Director Brian Lockery.

Business Services is responsible for accounting, purchasing, payroll, financial reporting, budget control, food services, national school breakfast and lunch program, Medicaid, property control and auditing functions for the Kyrene School District.
