Kyrene awards $4 million contract for child nutrition program

Kyrene School District has approved a $4 million contract with Southwest Foodservice Excellence to provide services for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program at all district schools.

At its May 23 meeting, Kyrene’s governing board voted unanimously to award the contract to Southwest, with Board Member Margaret Wright absent.

Initially slotted for the consent agenda, Board President Kevin Walsh noted in the meeting that the item was pulled from consent due to the amount of money being approved. Board policy holds that any amount over $1 million is considered separately.
