Kvaran: Writer misses the mark on Trump

The recent letter “Don’t believe falsehoods about Trump” (Daily Independent, Dec. 21, 2023) is fascinating because it appears to me to be a litany of exactly that.

It starts with the “stolen election” for which zero evidence has been presented, and we can now add Michigan to the list of Trump’s failed coup attempts.

Although Trump took the nuclear football” with him to Florida where he petulantly missed Biden’s swearing in, it was turned off at that time.

We then have, “Biden has never been allowed in the Pentagon.” Never? Not as a senator or as vice president?

In any case that story has been debunked many times and Biden did in fact visit the Pentagon in February 2021.

As far as Trump being a 5D chess player, well that’s a video game, which seems about right.

And then there are Trump’s legal problems being compounded by “corrupt judges.” He is innocent until proven guilty and we will get to see how that plays out dozens and dozens of times. It seems to me that this letter’s author’s clambering about “fake news” is, to quote Shakespeare, “The lady doth protest too much” or in more current language, a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

We then get to the economy where it is not mentioned that Trump added 8 trillion dollars to our national debt.

I am not even going to get into “deep state communist that have infiltrated every aspect of our country” because I thought that bit of paranoia was cleared up shortly after Joe McCarthy left the scene.
