Arizona’s first television studio is on the path to receiving a historic designation from the city of Phoenix.
The Historic Preservation Commission voted 8-0 on Monday to give the KPHO First Studio, at 631 N. First Ave., a historic preservation zoning overlay. The designation still needs to approved by council.
The designation would mean any future demolition or major modifications to the building must be approved be reviewed by the city’s Historic Preservation Office. A proposed demolition can be delayed for up to a year while the office seeks an alternative to demolition.
