'THE UNIMAGINABLE'

Killer gets 20 years for West Valley murder

Frank Vitale, who was preparing to retire and had just bought a home in Maricopa County, was in his car in October 2024 after finishing lunch at a buffet on the border of 99th Avenue and McDowell Road.

Roberto Trejo, a stranger to the 66-year-old, pointed a handgun at him inside the window of the car and shot Vitale before fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Trejo, 22, was sentenced last week to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
