Ketel Marte sets Diamondbacks record with ninth Opening Day start

Ketel Marte will make history tonight as the first Diamondback player to be in nine Opening Day lineups.

It breaks a tie with Luis Gonzalez, who started on Opening Day in left field for eight straight years, 1999-2006.

Marte’s nine Opening Day starts have also come in a row, dating back to 2018. Thursday will be his seventh Opening Day start at second base, also a team record, but he also had two starts in center field in 2019 and 2020.
