Kenneth H. Munroe, 80Former Su n City resident Kenneth H. Munroe died Oct. 25 at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas.Mr. Munroe was born March 19, 1927, in Perth Ambroy, N.J. He married Mildred Arnold of Shelby, Ohio, in 1978. An outstanding athlete, he played football, basketball and baseball, and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals his senior year of college. He was a relief pitcher for the team in 1950.After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated in 1950 from Western Maryland College with a degree in economics. After his professional baseball career he worked as purchasing manager for ITT Nesbitt in New Jersey.He formed his own company in 1973. He traveled extensively, specializing in cost production for numerous companies. He was honored in 1985 as guest speaker for the Packing Machinery Institute in Kauii, Hawaii.The couple moved to Scottsdale in 1990 where they enjoyed playing golf. However, his retirement was short-lived following an automobile accident that left him a quadriplegic. They moved to Sun City in 1995, then relocated to Las Vegas in 2007 to be close to family.Mr. Munroe is survived by his wife; a son, Ken Munroe Jr. of Emenence, Mo., a daughter, Shirley Lerner and her husband Neal of Delaware; two grandsons, Bryan and Kevin of Delaware; a brother, Bill Munroe and his wife Magdeline of Whispering Pines, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Meg Holden of Auroa, Ohio, Amy Heiland of Shelby, Ohio, Pamela Heischman of Las Vegas.At a later date his ashes will be returned to the New Jersey shore where he loved to fish.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mr. Munroe's name can be made to McDaniel College (the former Western Maryland College), Westminster, Md. 21157.
